Victoria came up with another brilliant idea for an exhibition (remember the last one?). This one is called other people’s houses: a photographic exploration of the places we choose to live.  I was invited to be one of the exhibitors, along with the original 1010 group, “reuniting to explore feelings of displacement, intimacy and voyeurism through photographs of the places we choose to live”. I took photographs of intimate moments in my new home.

other people’s houses will be exhibited at the CAMP, 70-74 City Rd, London, from May 5 – May 18. To go along to the opening night (which I think is going to be awesome fun!), you can rsvp here.

Again, with the wiggling of the nose… being in two places at once would be a welcomed bit of magic this coming month.

Have you noticed that image crediting on blogs has become a rather hot topic over the last few weeks? There have been some great posts about it from Chelsea at {frolic!} and Grace at Design*Sponge (who wrote three posts as part of her online etiquette + ethic series for biz ladies: here, here and here).

A couple of weeks ago Erin, Chelsea, Lisa, Nichole, Amanda and I started an email conversation about it, wondering if there was a way we could get the message across about the importance of image crediting in a fun and informative way. Because let’s face it, it’s a confusing topic that needs some serious clarification. In my industry, we are often talking about the lack of image crediting on blogs – there is very much a love/hate feeling for blogs with most photographers, stylists, art directors, editors and publishers. I, for example,  love the concept of tumblr but get so frustrated with the lack of crediting – countless times I’ve found a gorgeous image that I’d love to blog about but after hours of research still cannot find the original source. Not to mention finding my own images on there without credit.

We’ve already had some great feedback this morning on Grace’s post about the poster (thanks so much Grace!) and I’ve made some minor changes with those in mind, so what you see above is the finished poster. Also, some people have asked if the poster is for sale. We will keep you posted about that. Erin from design for mankind wrote a fab post about it today too,  and I love & agree with all she wrote. Erin has been a big inspiration in the making of this poster – from the colouring of her new blog design (which I adore!), to her funky style and funny, heartfelt words.  My dear friend Yvette van Boven let me use her incredible handwritten fonts, thank you sweet Yvette.

Thanks to everyone who has kept this topic hot over the last few weeks. I hope this poster helps to shed some much needed light on the subject and helps all to understand why it’s necessary to credit images. Dear Amanda just announced on her blog that a few of her beautiful polaroids have been featured in a gorgeous book in Korea called “Polaroid Day“. And I’m a bit thrilled to see that one of the polaroids chosen from her extensive collection feature my very first book as a prop. Super cute!

On October 10, 2010, I took ten photos…

“10 photographers. 10 photos each. All taken on 10/10/10. A single day represented in 100 photographs. No special occasion, no big event, just the essence of daily life captured through ten lenses.”

I was one of the ten asked to participate in this special online exhibition created by victoria. So on Sunday October 10, 2010, my camera was with me all day. At around 6pm I went for a walk  – the same walk I do most days, through a park toward the river amstel. But on this particular day, at this particular hour there just happened to be the most glorious ray of sunshine beaming through the very part  of the park that I always walk through. Upon entering, I found a swarm of tiny flies that looked like specks of dancing light. I couldn’t help but spend time with them -  capturing them catching light.

I had all intention of sharing a selection of 10 photos taken throughout the day, but once this moment arrived, I knew it was how I wanted to document the day – I believe every day has at least one moment that brings joy, and for me, this moment, as simple as it was, was that moment.

Romina Bacci is a talented graphic designer and photographer born in Argentina with Italian heritage, residing in the US. Her photography is ethereal and so very soothing, I’m thrilled to be able to share some of her work with here in the (blog)house today…

Romina is currently working on a few books that will be available to purchase in the future, they all look to be beautiful but I am particularly looking forward to de la mesa al alma which will feature a collection of photographs, family recipes, and stories gathered from her and her sister,  from days growing up in la cucina, watching and helping their nona make pasta all day…

I asked Romina if there was anything in particular that she wanted to share here along with her photographs, and I love what she had to say…

“Something I’d like to point out is how important it is for any artist, designer, photographer, writer to find our own voice, our own way of doing things, to find ourselves in our work. It is difficult to focus on what we want to do when out there is a vast ocean of inspiration, and I enjoy watching other artists’ work too, but I think it is very important to stop looking outside and start searching inside when it comes to creating our work. I believe this is priority, it’s a way of respecting others as well as respecting ourselves.”

I thought that was a beautiful sentiment and something I feel very strongly about too, it reminded me of this post about derivation which I wrote back in the very early days of my blog (can you believe it’s been 2 1/2 years since the (blog)house was built? Time has flown by ever since, what a whirlwind).

This series above is from Romina’s new marina, a sea collection available in her etsy shop, Miles of Light. The sea treasures featured in this series were a gift from her friend Sarah, a fellow graphic designer.

And these above are from her forest series: “our lives are like islands in the sea, or like trees in the forest, which co-mingle their roots in the darkness underground.”
